There are certain misconceptions that accompany prayer. Often times we think we need to pray long and hard in order to get God to hear us, but that’s not so. Sure, there are times when we need to persist in prayer before the answer comes, but I’m not referring to that in this instance.
Our prayers don’t have to be long and drawn out in order to get God’s attention. He isn’t moved by the length of our prayer at all. God is looking for sincerity. Some of the greatest answers to prayer that I have received have come from a quick, spontaneous prayer uttered in faith.
Jesus said, "And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows the thing you have need of before you ask Him." Matthew 6:7,8
Bold emphasis are my own.
God is not interested in our wordy prayers, for that is not what He requires. His heart is touched by our humility, fervency, and simple childlike faith.
Below I've offered an example of the kind of prayers I'm talking about. Each time I've cried out to the Lord in time of need, and prayed any one of these prayers from my heart, I've always amazed by God's response.
Lord, Help Me!
Lord, Forgive Me!
Lord, Open My Eyes!
Lord, Don’t Let Me Be Deceived!
Have you called on the name of Jesus in a time of desperation, or prayed a short, heartfelt prayer such as these and seen God
do great things in your life?
do great things in your life?
Blessings!
Kathy

ReplyDeletePrayer is such an important part of the life of the child of God! I have often prayed short prayer too and know that God has heard my sincere, heart-felt prayer: Lord, I pray for the spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and discernment in this situation. Thank You that Your Word will not return void, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Yvonne, Thank you for your comment, and especially adding the prayer. It's wonderful! Have a great Christmas & New Year!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've seen God move when all I prayed was a short heartfelt prayer. There was a time I was going thru alot trying to teach my preteen son and I thought there was nothing else I could do to reach him... then in desperation I prayed "God I don't know what to do, I need wisdom." The next thing I knew an idea popped into my head and when I tried it it worked! Success after so much failure. Every time I came to a brick wall with him I'd pray again and again he'd give me just what I needed when everything else had failed. He hears us!
ReplyDeletePatricia,
DeleteFirst of all forgive me for just responding to your comment. Somehow I missed it. Your comment has blessed me this morning. I agree with you that the simply, heartfelt prayers of the righteous prevail much. I rejoice with you for answered prayer over your son. God is so good!
Kathy, I just finished reading your book "Pray-ers Bear Fruit." The Holy Spirit led me to your book at a Healing Room Conference. There were tables full of books and CDs. Your book was the first one that the Holy Spirit shed light on it. I didn't get it then but I had to go all the way back up a mountain road to get it the next day. The enemy kept me busy trying me to not get around to reading it. But the Holy Spirit kept prodding me to get to it. I would like to pray like your book speaks about. You instruct us to ask for help and we will receive help. Blessings to you for Your New Year. Vision, right! -may scocco
