Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion, but woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Ecclesiastes 4:9,10
This scripture holds true even as it relates to prayer. The reason I say this is because of the challenges we face in life. One of Satan's greatest weapons is discouragement. When we are going through a battle or trial of some sort, he likes to make us think no one cares or understands what we are going through. What he is attempting to do is to isolate us and keep us from being victorious. Having someone to pray with is very critical, and it can help determine the outcome of a situation. God has blessed me with a wonderful prayer partner. I met her at a church we attended while living in California. We had only known each other for about a year when I was relocated, but we continued to keep in touch over the years, and we always prayed together over the phone. Back then, neither of us were aware that God had caused our paths to cross for His divine purpose. That was more than 16 years ago, and we are still going strong today. We pray together, support one another, encourage one another, and pull each other up. We are like iron sharpening iron (see Proverbs 27:17), and because we have learned to work together in prayer, we are experiencing the blessings of the Lord in our lives and families.
If you don't have a prayer partner, ask God to give you one. Someone who will touch and agree with you over the circumstances of life, and stand with you through the storms. There are tremendous benefits to having a prayer partner, and there is power in partnerships, because two are better than one. Jesus said, "If any two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." Matthew 18:19,20
I have listed some qualities to help you identify a great prayer partner:
- A person who knows the Word of God
- A person of prayer (they have a strong prayer life)
- A person who is trustworthy
- A person of integrity
- A person with strong character
- A person who is not judgemental or critical
- A person who is not jealous
- A person who wants God's best for you
- A person who does not gossip or backbite
Love and Blessings,
Kathy
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteHaving a prayer partner can be a scary thing. Trust is a very important quality that I do look for in people. I am encouraged to commit to finding a prayer partner this year 2011!
Hi Debbie. I was going through my blog posts this morning and saw your comment. Please forgive me for just now responding. I know much time has passed. Yes, it can be a bit scary when we open our hearts to people and share intimate things that are going on in our lives. But God wants us to partner together in prayer, because two are better than one. I hope that you have found a special prayer partner. Many Blessings!
