Book Review
When I first heard that Kathy R. Green was writing Pray-ers Bear Fruit, I became very excited about purchasing and reading it. First, because I had no idea she was a fellow writer and second, because I believe in supporting my loved ones and acquaintances, people of substance, in their God-given endeavors. I am glad to say that my excitement was well-rewarded. I have been acquainted with Kathy for about five years now. I was privileged to travel home with her daughter for Thanksgiving and spend our college holiday at their lovely home. Most people can appear to be kind, loving, and godly when you meet them in a neutral setting, but the facade will always eventually dissipate once you spend a few days under their roof. I am so pleased to be able to say that the same sweet presence that fills her home and makes her personality such a welcome fragrance to all who meet her is the same sweet virtue that flows throughout the entirety of Kathy’s book.
I am an avid reader of books-especially those on prayer-and I have read all types, many either technical in nature or so deep that the average person without a church background or culture cannot understand them, yet Pray-ers Bear Fruit breaks down all of those previous barriers. It walks us through the necessity that is prayer: what it is, how to do it, why it should be such a priority in our lives, and the inevitable fruit that comes from those who have chosen and choose make it an active part of their lives. Prayer is not some complex feat to be mastered only by years of time in church or only by people of the cloth. It is a simple task commanded of all men and the simplest step to living the life we all truly desire to live and Kathy’s book fully expresses that.
A few months ago, I spoke with a well-known-secular-publishing company and asked them how they thought a book on prayer would sell in today’s sketchy economy and immediately, they expressed how well they thought it would sell due to the heightened difficulties of life in today’s society. They expressed what a breath of fresh air it would be opposed to reading of vampires or other senseless literature that, although may provide temporary entertainment, does not permanently fill the void within each of us. Books on prayer are the most important type of self-help book and those seeking help would be more inclined to pick up a book on prayer and learn how to help themselves than any other type of book. Kathy’s book is that gust of newness long-needed in Christian literature as well as a tangible extension of the ever-present help in time of need that will prove 100 percent more beneficial than any Eastern, New Age, or other secular book could ever hope to prove.
I admonish each and every person reading this review to purchase Pray-ers Bear Fruit and if you already have it, purchase it for someone else. What could be a better blessing than the gift of prayer that keeps on blessing? You will not regret it.
