Prayer can seem pretty awkward when you first get started, and just as with any relationship, you may not know how to start the conversation. But Psalms 100 tells us to come before the Lord's presence with singing, and thank Him and praise Him for all that He has done. So before we start asking the Lord to do things for us, we need to stop and think about what He has already done. This will come naturally when we have a grateful heart, but if we do nothing but complain about our problems, being thankful will require a little more effort. When I go into my prayer time thanking God for anything and everything that comes to mind, the list seems to go on and on. God has done so much for us that we will never run out of things to thank Him for.
It blesses the Lord when we sing to Him from our heart. It doesn't matter if we can hold a tune or not, it's just that singing sets the atmosphere for prayer and fellowship with the Lord. It's okay to use your favorite music, but it's even better to sing a new song to the Lord that has never been sung before. By the time you celebrate the Lord in song, praising and thanking, and worshipping Him for His goodness, you will have His attention and His ears will be open to your voice. Now you are ready to petition the Lord for the things you need and desire of Him.
The more grateful we are, the more willing God is to bless us. The bible tells us, if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desire and secret petitions of our heart (Psalms 37:4 Amplified). So the next time you go into prayer, get ready to sing songs of thanksgiving and praise to the Lord, and worship Him from your heart, and you will be amazed at just how sweet your fellowship can be when you have learned how to enter into the presence of the Lord.
Blessings to you,
