Prayer Life Basics 103

We're moving right along in our discussion on the basics of developing your prayer life. After deciding what time of day you're going to pray, and the special place you want to meet with the Lord, now all you will need is your bible, a journal or notebook, and a pen. You need the Word of God with you so that you can look up verses of scripture that pertain to your particular situation. There will also be times when the Holy Spirit will remind you of a verse and you'll want to look it up. Prayer and the Word go hand in hand.  Prayers based on the Word of God are the best prayers you could ever pray. I'll be discussing more about how and why we pray according to the Word at another time. Lastly, you need a journal or notebook, and a pen so that you can write down what will be revealed to you in scripture, as well as the special things God will speak to you concerning your life and the things you're praying about. Having these items ready helps to cultivate an attitude of expectancy, and it shows the Lord that you're expecting Him to speak to your heart.

I've been keeping journals for over 2o years. I really enjoy going through the ones from previous years. It's my way of looking at how far I've come in my journey, it helps me to see how much I've grown as a Christian, and more importantly I can see how God has answered my prayers. These are very basic tips, but if you apply them, I know they will set you on course to have a very effective and fruitful prayer life.

I believe the whole idea of prayer seems very overwhelming for many, but it really shouldn't be. The Lord doesn't want you to shy away from spending time with Him because you don't know how. I've had many people tell me they don't pray because they simply don't know how to go about it, or they don't know what to say in prayer. I'm here not only to inspire you to pray, but to also show you how easy it really is. Prayer is an adventure, it's a journey, and something to be enjoyed. Don't be concerned about doing everything just right because you're going to learn more about prayer by actually praying. Don't let the idea of prayer overwhelm you, just relax and have a great time in the presence of the Lord.

Blessings to you,

Kathy R Green

  1. Kathy, you are so right. It's really important to have a journal or something, to keep track of the things and/or people you are praying about. Later, when you are going through tests and trials, you can refer to your journal to remind the devil of all the prayers that the lord has already answered and how he will do it again. Praise the Lord!
