Prayer Basics 102

In the last blog I talked about the importance of setting aside a specific time of day to pray.  Hopefully you've discovered what works best for you.  The next thing you must determine is where you want to pray.  When you designate a certain area in your home for prayer, it becomes your special place to meet with the Lord.  When I first got married, the only place I could go was in the living room area of our small apartment.  It wasn't private, but since I prayed early in the morning, before my family got up for the day, it worked for me.  Now I have made my office my prayer room.  I can go in there and close the door and pray until my heart's content.  It really doesn't matter which area you decide to make your place to be alone with the Lord, just as long as you have privacy.  If you have ever read through the gospels, you probably noticed that Jesus always went to a quiet place to pray.  One time He got into a boat and pushed away from the shore, and away from the crowd to be alone with God.  If you are determined enough, and desperate enough to spend time with the Lord, you'll do whatever it takes.  There have been times when I had a house full of guest, and there seemed to be nowhere I could go for privacy, so one time I went as far as to sneak off to a park around the corner, and I sat in my car and prayed.  It was wonderful just the same.

After you have decided the time of day, and the place that you will pray, you are ready to start praying.  There are no more excuses.   I want you to get excited about prayer.  Your prayer life will be like going on a journey that is full of adventures.  Once you get going and experiencing the presence of the Lord, your prayer time will become the best part of your day and something you look forward to with great anticipation.  You never know what God is going to speak to your heart.  Prayer is exciting!  Each time you meet with the Lord, it will be a different experience.  Enter into prayer with an attitude of expectancy.  Always remember, prayer is a dialog, it's a two way conversation where you talk to Father God, and He speaks back to your heart.

In the upcoming blogs I'm going to be sharing things like how to hear the voice of the Lord, and how to enter into His presence.  I'm truly excited for you because I know from experience that God has much in store for you.  Hebrews 11:6 tells us, God rewards those who diligently seek Him.

Blessings,
