We are living in hard times. The world around us seems to be changing every day. But the good news is, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We can always count on Him. We need to stay close to God, especially during these critical times. Now is the time to get back to the basics, the fundamental things that Christianity is build upon. I'm referring to your one on one relationship with the Lord. Spending time in prayer is a vital part of your spiritual growth, and it will help you to know the Lord personally and intimately.
When you make a decision to become a person of prayer, it's important to figure out what time of day is the best time for you to pray. I know that seems like a no brainer, but it's more important than you may realize. Setting aside a specific time for prayer will help you to establish a routine. This is very beneficial, and it has helped me to develop a more diligent and consistent prayer life over the years.
I've prayed both early in the morning, and late at night. When I tried to stay up late to pray, I found myself being overcome by sleep, and I knew I really wasn't accomplishing anything. So I decided mornings would be my time to pray. Praying in the morning gives me a sense of guidance and direction for the day. Everyone in the house is still sleeping, and the phone is not ringing off the hook, so there are no interruptions. If you are not a morning person, or if your work schedule doesn't permit early morning prayer, then you can set your prayer time for the evening, right before bed. This can work for you because everything should have settled down by this time, and hopefully there are no distractions.
Isaiah 6:9 reads, With my soul I have desired You in the night, yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early. So whether you decide to pray early in the morning, or late at night, the choice is yours. What's most important is that you spend time in prayer each day. God doesn't want you to feel condemned about when you pray, He simply wants to spend time with you. And remember, the purpose for setting aside a time to pray is to help you to get in the habit of praying daily, but it doesn't mean that you can only pray once a day. As Christians we are supposed to pray without ceasing. We can talk to the Lord whenever we want to, and wherever we are, He is always listening.
Each week I'll be sharing more practical lessons on Prayer Basics, so be sure to follow along. And if my blog has been a blessing to you, please remember to comment at the end of the post. Something you share may encourage someone else in their prayer life.
Blessings always,
Kathy R. Green
