Thy Kingdom Come...On Earth as It Is in Heaven

I am very happy to be guesting today on Kathy’s wonderful blog!  I am also very pleased to share with you about my very first published work: Godly Government.  Godly Government is a brief, yet powerful ebook on the Christian’s duty to God and country.  It’s not about Republican or Democrat; military or civilian.  It’s about our duty as Christians to pray—and act—in keeping with God’s Word and Will.

God’s Kingdom, God’s Will

The most foundational element of Godly Government—and every area of life—is prayer.  Jesus understood this principle and taught us how to pray properly.

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  (Matthew 6:9-10 KJV).

The very first lines of the prayer teach us that we are not simply willing a thing to happen.  In fact, our will has nothing to do with prayer.  Hard as this is to accept, we realize that when we pray God’s will, then God’s Kingdom manifests on earth, one submitted will at a time.  And when we pray His will and seek His heart, He takes care of our needs and desires that line up with His Word and timing for our lives (Matthew 6:33).
Yet praying God’s will is not restricted to our personal lives.  God always has a much bigger scope in mind.

Healing Our Land

God desires to heal our land, our nation, and our government.  In Godly Government, I talk about the necessity of seeking this healing.  The wisest ruler ever to live sought God’s guidance and this is what He told Solomon.

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

This “if, then clause” is paramount because it is the key to receiving the healing that our nation so desperately needs. If we humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God (I Peter 5:6), if we get on our faces, and if we repent of our sins—individual and corporate—then God will hear us, forgive us, and heal us.  What a wonderful promise!  Yet it all starts with prayer.  Prayer is the foundation to achieving the changes we desire in our nation.

Prayers AND Actions that Line Up

Something I “harp” on frequently when discussing Godly Government is this power-packed truth:
…Faith without works is dead. James 2:20

James actually called the individual who believes that they can have faith and pray without correlating actions a fool (James 2:20)!  And harsh though that may seem, we make ourselves, not only foolish, but also double-minded and deceived when we profess to believe and pray about a thing, and then prove something wholly different through our incongruous actions (James 1:6-8; 22).

I told someone just yesterday who decided not to vote in the upcoming Election: “just remember that the next time you want to complain [about our nation].”  Now as Christians, hopefully we’re not complaining.  Yet the principle is the same: don’t “shondobo” (pray in tongues), don’t fast, and don’t preach about desiring Godly Government and the state of our nation if you will not step up to the plate and vote for laws and rulings that reflect the Kingdom of God you profess to belong to.  God will not hear you.  And I will take it a step further.  Just like Mordecai told his young cousin Esther,

Do not think in your heart that you will escape… For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise... from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.” (Esther 4:13-14)

I say the same to you. Don’t think that God won’t hear and work on behalf of someone else’s prayer.  Yet if you choose not to act, it is you who will be left behind and prohibited from participating in what God desires to do in our nation and government.  Yet Mordecai followed up this harrowing call to action with encouragement:

Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

God has called you for such as time as this to pray and act on behalf of our nation’s government.  Whether you are American, Nigerian, Chinese, or Columbian, God has a plan of action for you to carry out concerning your city, state, and national government.  Just remember: God has entrusted humanity with the ruling of the world.  Without our agreement, He can do nothing.

The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men.
(Psalm 115:16)
